New skies

Beitrag von Lasse D » 05.12.2007 19:41

Hello everybody.

I´m writing to You in english, hoping that it is ok. My german is not so good anymore.

I´m looking to buy a pair of skies but I would like Your advice as to what skies I should be looking for.

I´m a young man, age 27, height 180 cm, weight 77 kg. I have been skiing since the age of 7, about 20 weeks total. I ski normal to aggressiv carving with short too medium turns on primary red groomed and black groomed pists. I´m in good shape (dooing sports 10 hours a week)

I allmost dont ski off-piste at all (perhaps 2-5 %) and only when my frinds gets me to join them.

I think I´m looking for a slalom carver, but which one will You recommend? And are they too difficult/stiff to be skiing on a whole day? Should I bee looking for an top allround carver instead?

Best regards

That mostly depends on the ski itself, you can find modells that need you to be fully concentrated and in good shape to drive them a whole day and there are also enough modells that aren't that demanding.

I fear the only way to find the pair of skis that match your wishes exactly is to test them.

I'd rather stick to slalom carvers given your profile (short to medium turns with almost no offpiste activity).

As I haven't been doing much testing myself lately I can offer you only limited advice regarding concrete models. I'd probably try
Head Supershape
Atomic ST11 or ST12
Atomic SL11 or SL12 (note ST and SL have similar geometry but are differently laid out regarding flex, ST got a softer flex)
Elan SLX
Fischer RC4 SC
Head Supershape Magnum
Head Xenon 7.0 or 9.0
Edelwiser (those can not be tested in shops though but only by contact with the manufacturer)

If you plan to go to a skiing resort anyway try to lookup which skishops are there. Many shops will deduct the rentalfee if you buy your skis there, which means you can test through some models and find what you like without having higher costs (however call them and ask first as that's not guaranteed for every shop).
